Several journalism and free speech trials were held last week. Below is a list of the hearings monitored by Media and Law Studies Association (MLSA) last week:

Court grants Evrensel editor extra time to prepare defense

Evrensel newspaper former managing editor Çağrı Sarı’s fourth case hearing in which she is charged with ‘attack on personal rights’ (slander and defamation) for reporting on the ‘Paradise Papers leak’, was held today at the Bakırköy 2. Criminal Court of First Instance. Court adjourned her hearing until 19 February.

ETHA reporter İsminaz Temel remains in detention

In pre-trial detention since October 2017 for her reporting, ETHA reporter İsminaz Temel was not released on the grounds that she might spoil the evidence that dates back to 2016.

Court decides to wait for the completion of Zarakolu’s red notice

İstanbul court upholds red notice for Ragıp Zarakolu, adjourns hearing until 7 February 2019.
