Evrensel editor-in-chief Fatih Polat receives ₺10k fine

Cansu Pişkin, İstanbul - A suspended criminal case against Fatih Polat, the editor-in-chief of Evrensel newspaper, for ‘revealing the identity of a minor’ has been reopened after Polat was convicted in a separate case. Polat received a ten-thousand lira fine and a suspended verdict in 2013, the suspension of which depended on Polat receiving no further convictions.

Devrim Avcı represented Polat before the İstanbul 2. Court of First Instance at a hearing today. Avcı requested his clients acquittal, arguing that Polat is entirely innocent. The court rejected Avcı’s request and imposed another ten-thousand lira fine. Avcı stated that he intends to appeal the verdict.
